explanation: Born in 1946 in Yamaguchi prefecture. After graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, he took part in various grassroots citizens' movements with Ichikawa Fusae. In 1980, he was elected in diet under the banner of Shakai Minshu Rengo. In 1993, he founded Shinto Sakigake with Hatoyama Yukio and participated to a coalition government with Jiminto led by Hashimoto Ryutaro as a health minister. In 1996, he founded Minshuto with Hatoyama Yukio. He is now its president.
